The Transition Handbook From Oil Dependency to Local Resilience Transition Guides
The Transition Handbook From Oil Dependency to Local Resilience Transition Guides

I will begin this book “review” by telling you that I find nothing-absolutely nothing wrong with The Transition Handbook. If that then makes this article into a commercial for the book instead of a review, so be it.
For nearly a year I have been emphasizing in my writing that a positive vision must be held in consciousness alongside all of the abysmal events unfolding around us. Even as I have been insistent on staring down the collapse of civilization, I have embraced at the same time, what could be and have held in my mind and heart the threads of the new paradigm that so many of us are working to create.
Thus it has been with great pleasure and relief that I have looked deeply into the Transition Town movement and found it to exemplify everything that I believe comprises effective relocalization and the shaping of alternative economies and vibrant communities. Not only am I in awe of what the people of Totnes, the first Transition Town in the U.K., have accomplished, but more so, that the Transition Town model has become contagious and is spreading to a variety of places throughout the world, in the United States, and closer to my own local community here in Vermont. I’m additionally pleased that The Transition Handbook is now being distributed here in the U.S. by a Vermont publisher, Chelsea Green.

This book happily describes the British grassroots “Transition Towns” movement. Meant to be a guide and motivator, the handbook discusses how several U.K. towns are preparing for the twin threats of climate change and peak oil. Hopkins, a teacher of permaculture and natural building and a cofounder of the Transition Network, urges a community response

User Ratings and Reviews
5 Stars A REFRESHING VIEW
After reading several “pro-active” books on online business, it is refreshing to finally find a book that doesn’t paint a too rosy a picture of the future of online commerce. The message of this book is: you can make an income from the Internet - supplemental income, at least - but will probably not become a millionaire. The Internet is not here to drive existing businesses out of business, and hence can’t claim to take their share of the market and give it to Internet entrepreneurs. It is a very informative book that, as other readers have mentioned, gets your creative juices flowing. The graphic layout of the book leaves something to be desired, however, and some of the URLs are outdated.
1 Star Birdcage material
This author is one of those get-rich quick schemers who is using the profits from this load of hogwash to finance his soon-to-be-released informercial making the same bogus claims. Everyone knows there is money to be made on the Net; what we don’t know (and subsequently desire to know) is HOW. This book offers a bunch of lame ideas that any dim-witted fool could come up with while reading through the classified section of an income opportunity type magazine. Get real. There appears to be absolutely no original thought work put into this book. Do yourself a favor…if you really want to MAKE money…don’t throw it away on this fodder for birdcage bottoms.
4 Stars Only those who dare truly live
This is a great book for those who have no idea of how the Internet works. This book explains the online business world in plain English — especially good for beginners and foreigners (e.g. Russians). This is a book of business. And if you want to learn about PCs, operating systems and Inernet you’ll need additional literature.
Folks, we are living now in a global village with a common marketplace. But this book is too overoptimistic if you really beleive to squeeze some money out of the Internet and get rich soon. But try! And then try again. Only those who dare truly live.
4 Stars Interesting and stimulating
This book offers much needed information to the Internet rookie. It is good for those who have no idea how to go about making a living out of the Internet, but if you have some experience in e-commerce/Internet business you should get a book that looks into the matter with greater detail. Ironically, one such book is the author’s own “1 BUSINESS 2 APPROACHES (HOW TO SUCCEED IN INTERNET BUSINESS BY EMPLOYING REAL WORLD STRATEGIES)” which I also read and consider a much better book. I suspect that the first part of “121 INTERNET BUSINESSES YOU CAN START FROM HOME” is just a summary of that book.
1 Star You’ve Got To Be Kidding Me
If you would seriously consider wanting to be an Auto Loan Broker, an Online Handwriting Analyst, A Toner Cartridge Remanufacturer, an Online Astrologer, or would like to have a Virtual Cemetery, then this book is for you.
Blogging Your Way to Profit

If you are already maintaining a web site, having a blog can add to, or enhance, your existing web presence. The ability to provide your customers, and readers, with fresh content on a daily, or weekly basis can keep your business running even during lean months. Blogging is also a great way for small business owners, with little web design knowledge, and small budgets to establish a professional, attractive, web presence. Many designers charge much less for a completely customized blog design and installation than they would charge for complete, traditional, html or flash website design. When blogging first began becoming popular among businesses I was slow to notice the change. It seemed to me as though more and more of my competitors were shutting down their traditional websites and replacing them with well designed blogs. Other competitors kept their existing websites up, but added links to their websites that sent surfers to there companies newly created blogs. I decided to start learning more about blogging, but I didn’t want to change my entire website format until I was sure blogging was right for me and my business.
